Amy Schumer was born on June 1, 1981, in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA, as Amy Beth Schumer. Her mother’s name is Sandra Jane, and her father’s name is Gordon David Schumer. His father owned a baby furniture company. 

She has a younger sister named Kim Caramele, now a comedy writer and a producer. She has a half-brother, too, named Jason Stein, who is now a musician. 

Her father’s furniture business boomed. But after some years, the business failed, and the family went bankrupt. The unfortunate events occurred when her father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Eventually, her parents divorced.

Amy Schumer was raised by her mother on Long Island, where she attended South Side High School, graduating in 1999. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland, attended Towson University, and graduated from the same in 2003 with a degree in theater.

Schumer then moved back to New York and studied at William Esper Studio for two years, working as a bartender as well as a waitress.

Amy Schumer began a relationship with Chris Fischer, a chef and author, in late 2017. After dating for around three months, the lovebirds got engaged. They tied the knot on February 13, 2018, in Malibu, California.

On October 22, 2018, she announced that she was pregnant and was expecting her first child with her husband, Fischer! The couple welcomed their son Gene David Fischer in May 2019. They filed for divorce in late 2025.

Early Career

Amy Schumer’s first performance was in Keeping Abreast, where she played a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer. On June 1, 2004, she started to perform stand-up comedy, her first performance being at the Gotham Comedy Club. Her big break was in NBC’s reality television talent show Last Comic Standing, where she was placed in fourth position.
