Sterling K. Brown’s birth took place on April 5, 1976, to parents Sterling Brown and Aralean Banks Brown. His birthplace is St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States, and his birth name/full name is Sterling Kelby Brown. He has four siblings- sisters Ariel Brown and Angela Brown, and brothers Armand Brown and Robert Brown (brother).

Unfortunately, his father died when he was only 10 years old due to a heart attack. He and his siblings were raised by his mother in Olivette, Missouri.

In regard to education and studies, Sterling K. Brown attended Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School. Following graduation from high school, Sterling K. Brown enrolled at Stanford University. Initially wanting to study economics, he soon learned that he had no taste for it and was rather bored. Realizing he loved acting, he changed his major.

From there, he graduated with a degree in acting in 1998. For higher studies, he joined New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, graduating with a degree in Master of Fine Arts.

His ethnicity is African-American.

Sterling K. Brown is a married man. He and actress Ryan Michelle Bathe married in June 2007 after eloping in March 2007. The lovebirds met in Standford College when both were freshmen and started dating in 1998. 

Initially, their relationship was rocky and had broken up. After 3 years of separation, they began dating again, this time for good.

With his wife, he has welcomed two children together, both sons. Their sons are named Andrew Jason Sterling Brown and Amaré Michael Ryan Christian Brown. Andrew was delivered at home as the young parents were caught off guard. There has been no news of divorce surrounding the pair.

Early Career

Sterling K. Brown performed at the regional theatre following graduation. Soon, he landed roles in TV series including ER (2004), Boston Legal (2005), JAG (2004),  Without A Trace (2006), Third Watch (2002-2004), Supernatural (2006-2007), and regular appearances in Starved.

Brown’s most frequent roles are seen in the series Army Wives (2007-2013) as Roland Burton, Person of Interest (2012-2013), The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story as Christopher Darden, and This Is Us (2016- 2022).
